What Latin American construction projects need
Latin American infrastructure spans Andes road and tunnel approaches, coastal river bridges, dam and reservoir works, and urban buildings on alluvial or laterite ground. The ground is not uniform: coastal projects sit on alluvium, plateau projects run into laterite and weathered rock, and urban projects sometimes fill made ground. The equipment that works is the rig that handles that mix without stranding the project on a 60-day sea freight for a part. We have shipped foundation rigs, dynamic compactors and earthmoving machines across Chile, Peru, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia and Argentina.
| Project type | Equipment | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Coastal / river bridge piles | Fuel rotary rig | Cases alluvium, cuts rock socket. |
| Made ground platform | Dynamic compaction | Densifies made ground to a bearing layer. |
| Earthworks loading | Wheel loader | Loads trucks and stockpiles on site. |
| Site dozing | Wheel bulldozer | Grades and clears the working area. |
Foundation rigs and ground improvement
Coastal and river bridge piers usually bore through alluvial fill into a rock socket. A fuel-fired rotary drilling rig drives casing through the alluvium so the hole does not collapse, then cuts the socket. Where a building goes on made ground, a dynamic compaction machine densifies the fill to a measured depth so the platform settles within tolerance. The full foundation range is on the foundation construction equipment page.
For a worked example of pile work on an expressway bridge program, see the China expressway bridge pile case; the casing-through-alluvium logic transfers to coastal Latin American bridges. For treating made ground, see the landfill ground improvement case.
Earthmoving and the long sea leg
Behind every foundation rig is earthworks: stripping overburden, loading trucks, grading the working area. A wheel loader loads trucks and stockpiles, and a wheel bulldozer clears and grades the site. We spec the loader around the rig's spoil rate so the foundation work does not wait on trucks.
The sea leg to the west coast of South America is long - roughly 45 to 60 days from Shanghai to Callao or San Antonio. That makes the starter fast-moving-parts kit more important: we ship a 90-day kit with the first order so the project is not waiting on a slow sea freight for a filter or seal. More on the after-sales support page. Mining buyers should also look at the Latin America mining equipment page.
Export, customs and commissioning
Construction equipment ships from Shanghai to Callao, San Antonio, or a Brazilian or Mexican port, then overland to the project site. We prepare the full export document set - commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, export declaration, CE/ISO certificates and certificate of origin - and work with forwarders who know Latin American port procedures. The importer of record handles local clearance and duty.
For project orders we send a commissioning engineer for rig-up, first-shift check-out and operator training, covering pre-start checks, safe operation and basic fault diagnosis. Travel and accommodation are agreed in the project quotation. The crane lift logic on the wind turbine crane case shows how a lift is planned around radius.
Logistics, customs and payment at a glance
| Route | Sea freight | Typical incoterms |
|---|---|---|
| Shanghai to Callao (Peru) | ~45-55 days | CIF Callao |
| Shanghai to San Antonio (Chile) | ~50-60 days | CIF San Antonio |
| Port to project site | + overland by road | DAP site option |
Payment terms are standard T/T: 30 percent deposit with the order, 70 percent balance before shipment. For established contractors and project-scale orders we can discuss an irrevocable L/C at sight from an acceptable bank. We quote in US dollars on FOB, CIF or DAP terms. Request the spec sheet on the downloads page or through the contact form.
Frequently asked questions
Which Latin American countries do you ship to?
We export to Chile, Peru, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia and Argentina. Equipment ships to Callao, San Antonio, or a Brazilian or Mexican port, then overland to site.
What suits Latin American ground?
Projects mix Andes rock, coastal alluvium and laterite. A fuel rotary rig cases alluvium and cuts a rock socket, and a dynamic compactor treats made ground. We match the rig to the pile spec.
How is long sea freight handled for parts?
The sea leg is 45 to 60 days. A 90-day starter fast-moving-parts kit ships with the first order, and critical parts go by air.
What payment terms apply?
Standard is 30 percent T/T deposit and 70 percent before shipment. For established contractors and project orders we can discuss an irrevocable L/C at sight. We quote in US dollars.
Do you commission and train on site?
Yes. For project orders we send a commissioning engineer for rig-up, first-shift check-out and operator training. Travel and accommodation are agreed in the quotation.
Tell us your Latin American project
Send us the project type, the pile or compaction spec, the ground profile and the project port, and our engineering team will match foundation and earthmoving equipment across the Yutong range. We quote in US dollars on FOB, CIF or DAP terms with the full customs document set.
