Frequently Asked Questions: Mining, Construction and Sanitation Equipment

Real engineering answers to the questions pit engineers, fleet buyers and procurement teams ask before ordering a mining truck, drill rig, crane, sanitation vehicle or earthmover. Pick a category on the left or scroll through the sections.

Mining Trucks

Questions about payload class, powertrain, body volume and ramp grade for rigid mining dump trucks. Start here if you are sizing a mining dump truck fleet.

What payload class of mining dump truck do I need?

Start from daily tonnage and the loader bucket size. A 40 to 50 t truck such as the YT3621 pairs with a 5 to 8 m3 bucket on benches under 30 m wide; a 60 to 90 t truck such as the YTK105E pairs with a 10 to 15 m3 shovel on wider benches. Aim for 4 to 6 loader passes.

Diesel or electric mining truck?

Electric wins on short, repeatable 1 to 3 km cycles with grid power or a swap station, and where diesel or pit-ventilation cost is high. The YTK90E electric truck suits those loops. Diesel still wins for hauls over 5 km, remote sites and trucks that must leave the pit road at short notice.

Heaped or struck body volume?

Struck is the level flat box; heaped adds a side pile. Multiply heaped volume by material density to get real tonnes (granite ~2.6 t/m3, coal ~0.9 t/m3), then confirm the figure stays under rated payload. Coal needs more volume per tonne than iron ore.

How does ramp grade affect truck choice?

Gradeability is the steepest sustained slope climbable at full GVW. Pits with 8 to 10 percent ramps need enough power-to-weight and strong retarder on the descent. Always run the spec against the worst 200 m of ramp on the route.

Battery swap or fast charge?

Swap keeps the truck productive on 24-hour pits because a swap takes minutes; the YTK136E uses a swap station. Fast charge is cheaper to install for a small fleet with predictable idle windows. Choose swap for continuous production; charge for smaller fleets.

Rigid or articulated dump truck?

Rigid trucks run on prepared haul roads in open-pit mining and carry higher payloads at lower cost per tonne-km. Articulated trucks work in soft, rough, off-road terrain where the haul road is not built up. Most open-pit copper, coal and iron mines use rigid trucks from the YTK / YTG range.

Drilling Rigs

Blasthole and DTH rig questions: hole size, rig type, air supply and electric vs diesel. Browse the rotary blasthole rigs and tracked DTH rigs for the full range.

Rotary blasthole drill or DTH rig?

Rotary blasthole drills are for larger benches drilling 115 to 200 mm production blast holes. DTH rigs suit smaller benches, quarries and the 90 to 127 mm hole range, with a smaller footprint and easier bench-to-bench moves.

What hole size do I need for production blasting?

Hole diameter is set by bench height and desired fragmentation. A 127 to 165 mm hole suits 10 to 15 m benches; larger 200 mm holes suit 18 m-plus benches. Match the hole to the shovel bucket so fragmentation loads cleanly.

Electric or diesel drill rig?

Drilling is a steady stationary power load. Grid-tied electric drives such as the YTR206AE cut fuel and noise on urban piling sites; diesel makes sense for remote exploration drilling without grid power.

Crawler-mounted or truck-mounted drill?

Crawler-mounted rigs move slowly but grip soft or uneven ground on the bench. Truck-mounted rigs travel between drill patterns faster on prepared roads. Choose crawler for soft ground, truck for wide, hardened benches.

What size air compressor for DTH drilling?

DTH hammer size dictates air volume: a 4-inch hammer needs roughly 11 to 13 m3/min at 25 bar; a 6-inch hammer needs 18 to 22 m3/min. Undersized air means slow penetration and bent holes. Match the compressor to the hammer.

Cranes

Crawler cranes, truck cranes and electric port tire cranes. See the hoisting equipment range for model details.

Crawler crane or truck crane?

Crawler cranes lift heavier loads and slew under load but move slowly between sites. Truck cranes travel on roads between lifts but need outriggers and lift less on rubber. Crawler for heavy, long-duration lifts; truck crane for mobile, scattered lifts.

How do I read a crane load chart?

The chart lists rated capacity by boom length and load radius. Find your radius (horizontal distance from slewing axis to load), find the boom length, and the intersection gives the safe working load. Never exceed the chart; deduct rigging weight and watch wind limits.

Electric port tire crane vs diesel RTG?

Electric tire cranes such as the YTQL40E use shore power and recover energy on container descent, cutting fuel and emissions in populated port areas. Diesel RTGs are mobile without shore power. Electric suits terminals with a fixed yard and grid supply.

How much lifting capacity do I actually need?

Add the heaviest load plus rigging, below-the-hook gear and a 20 to 25 percent safety margin. Then check that capacity at your worst working radius, not just at minimum radius. A crane that lifts 100 t at close radius may lift only 30 t at 20 m radius.

Sanitation Vehicles

BEV sweepers, road washers and vacuum trucks for municipal fleets. Browse the sanitation machinery range.

BEV sweeper or diesel sweeper?

Battery-electric sweepers such as the YTZ5043 BEV sweeper run quiet and zero-tailpipe on fixed municipal routes with depot charging. Diesel suits variable routes and longer shifts without depot infrastructure. Most city fleets start BEV on the fixed-route loops.

Sweeper, road washer or vacuum truck?

A sweeper brushes and picks up dry debris. A road washer uses high-pressure water for oil, mud and staining. A vacuum truck sucks liquid sludge and sewage. Choose by the contamination; fleets often run all three on a combined route plan.

What depot charging infrastructure do I need?

A municipal BEV fleet needs off-street charging bays with 7 to 22 kW AC chargers per truck, fed by a dedicated electrical supply. Plan the charging schedule around off-peak tariff and the route loop length. We size the supply against your fleet count.

How does cold weather affect electric sanitation range?

LFP packs lose roughly 15 to 25 percent range in winter. A thermal management system pre-conditions the battery from grid power during overnight charging. Range still covers a standard municipal route loop.

Earthmoving

Wheel loaders, bulldozers, scrapers and dynamic compaction. See the earthmoving machinery range.

Wheel loader or bulldozer for stockpiling?

A wheel loader such as the 956H loads material from a stockpile into a hopper or truck. A bulldozer pushes and grades material on the bench. Loaders load; dozers push and spread. A stockpile feeding a crusher usually needs a loader.

How do I match a loader bucket to a truck?

Aim for 4 to 6 loader buckets to fill the truck body. If the bucket is too small, cycle time collapses; if too big, the loader loses mobility and overfills. Match bucket volume to truck body volume and material density.

Scraper or truck plus loader?

A scraper loads, hauls and spreads in one machine on cut-and-fill earthworks. A truck plus loader is faster on long hauls and heavy rock. Scrapers win on short, flat, free-draining cut-and-fill; truck-loader wins on long hauls or hard rock.

What is dynamic compaction used for?

Dynamic compaction drops a heavy weight from height to densify loose fill, granular soils and mine backfill without vibration to adjacent structures. It suits site preparation for buildings, tank farms and road embankments on loose ground.

General & Export

Payment, incoterms, lead time, warranty, parts and training. More on the service page and downloads page.

What payment terms do you accept?

Standard terms are 30 percent T/T deposit with the order and 70 percent balance before shipment. For established customers and larger fleets we can discuss an irrevocable L/C at sight from an acceptable bank. We quote in US dollars.

What incoterms do you offer?

We quote FOB Shanghai or Qingdao, CIF your nearest discharge port, or DAP to your project site. Most mining and municipal buyers take CIF to the port and handle inland haulage themselves; we can also arrange the overland leg.

How long is the lead time?

Standard models ship from production stock or within 30 to 60 days of order. Customised configurations, right-hand-drive export builds and fleet orders run 60 to 90 days. Confirm the current slot at order stage.

What does the warranty cover?

Equipment carries a one-year or 2,000-hour warranty (whichever comes first) from delivery, covering manufacturing defects under normal operation. Consumables such as tyres, filters and brake linings follow their own wear schedules.

Do you provide operator training?

Yes. For fleet orders we commission on site and train operators and maintenance technicians on pre-start checks, safe operation and basic fault diagnosis, at our Zhengzhou factory or your project site, in English.
