Rotary Blasthole Drilling Rigs

About Rotary Blasthole Drilling Rigs

Yutong rotary blasthole drilling rigs are surface blast-hole drills engineered to pre-drill and charge shot holes ahead of loading and hauling in open-pit mines and quarries. The YTR series is available on two proven carrier platforms: Caterpillar chassis units (YTR120C, YTR200C, YTR280C, YTR360C) for global parts and service support, and Doosan chassis units (YTR150D, YTR230D/YTR300D) for a balance of drilling power and carrier reliability. Fully hydraulic rotation and feed systems deliver straight, accurate holes across a range of bench heights and rock strengths, so the blast breaks the bench to a consistent fragmentation size and the loading truck cycles faster. Pair a YTR blasthole drill with a Yutong mining dump truck to quote the complete drill-and-haul package.

Blasthole Drilling for Mining and Quarry Benches

Blasthole rigs drill the pattern that every downstream process depends on: hole spacing, diameter and straightness set the powder factor, fragmentation and, ultimately, the cost per tonne blasted. On a 10–15 m bench with 105–165 mm holes, the difference between a true and a wandering hole is visible in the muck pile — and in the excavator cycle times that follow.

Choosing the Rig to Match the Pit Plan

  • Hole diameter range: 105–130 mm suits quarry and small open pits; 140–165 mm suits large open-pit production where fewer, bigger holes cut pattern costs.
  • Bench height and single-pass capability: a rig that drills a full bench in one pass eliminates rod changes and the alignment risk that comes with every connection.
  • Angle drilling: 15–30° angle capability lets the blaster stand the face back and control backbreak on final walls.
  • Dust control: dry-type collectors with adequate filter area keep the deck clear and the operator healthy — a compliance point in most mining jurisdictions.

Rotary vs DTH in Blasthole Work

Rotary tricone drilling is the productivity leader in softer and medium formations and large diameters, where bit weight and rotation alone break rock efficiently. In hard or abrasive ground the same fleet often carries DTH hammers. Yutong blasthole rigs accept both tool strings on the same tower, so a contractor can switch strategy when the face changes without changing machines.
