Tracked DTH Drilling Rigs

Air package sizing: the compressor must sustain rated pressure at depth — a rule of thumb is to size at least 25% margin over the hammer manufacturer's air requirement, because pressure drop through couplings and hose grows quickly on a 6 m-plus string. Yutong's rigs include the air system as part of the package, with the compressor matched to the hammer range the customer actually runs, rather than a generic maximum.

About Tracked DTH Drilling Rigs

Yutong tracked down-hole (DTH) drilling rigs are fully hydraulic surface drills designed for blast-hole drilling in open-pit mines, quarries and large-scale earthworks. The flagship YTQ165 combines a robust tracked undercarriage for rough bench mobility with a high-pressure DTH hammer circuit that drills straight, clean holes in hard rock. The tracked chassis lets the rig reposition quickly between hole patterns without a separate carrier, and the hydraulic feed system maintains consistent pull-down for deep, vertical holes. Used alongside Yutong mining dump trucks, the DTH drill completes the drill-and-haul cycle: it pre-drills and charges the bench, then the rigid truck fleet loads and hauls the blasted material. Export units calibrate to destination-market noise and emission rules and ship with the drill rig technical file your mining regulator expects.

Down-The-Hole Drilling: When and Why It Wins

DTH (down-the-hole) rigs place the hammer directly behind the bit, so impact energy travels to the rock without losing force through rod joints. That makes them the standard choice for hard-rock production drilling, quarry benching, water wells, geothermal bores and geotechnical investigation, particularly where hole diameters run from 90 mm to 254 mm and where straight, stable holes matter more than pure penetration speed.

DTH vs Top-Hammer vs Rotary: A Working Rule

  • DTH: best in hard, abrasive rock; hole straightness holds even through fractured formations; depth capability is limited mainly by air capacity.
  • Top-hammer: faster in soft-to-medium rock at shallow depths; loses energy as the drill string lengthens.
  • Rotary (tricone): preferred for large-diameter blastholes and very deep holes where weight-on-bit and rotation do the work.

Specifying a Tracked DTH Rig

  • Compressor output (m³/min at pressure): 20–35 bar class machines deliver the air volume that keeps the hammer cycling; under-supplying air halves penetration rate.
  • Feed length and pullback: longer feeds cut rod-handling time; pullback must exceed the string weight in broken ground.
  • Track ground pressure: on soft overburden, low ground pressure tracks prevent bogging and keep alignment.
  • Rod handling and carousel: single-operator rod carousels turn the drilling day from 8 to 12 productive hours.

Yutong tracked DTH rigs pair diesel or electric drive with on-board compressor packages sized for 20 bar-plus operation, and the tower geometry is designed so angle holes up to 45° hold alignment through the casing cycle.
