The challenges mining operators face
Open-pit mines and quarries run equipment in conditions that break machines built for gentler duty cycles: high altitude that derates diesel engines, ambient temperatures above 40 C that stress hydraulics and electronics, abrasive silica dust that wears filters, seals and brake components, and payload cycles where every minute of haul time counts. A truck that performs well on a flat factory floor will under-produce on a 10 percent grade with a loaded descent. Our mining solutions are specified against these four conditions rather than against a generic brochure. Read how comparable fleets performed in the Chile copper mine case study and the iron ore Australia case study.
Solution: an integrated mining fleet
We combine three machine families so the fleet works as one system. The mining dump truck is the backbone, chosen in rigid diesel or pure-electric configuration from 60 to 140 tons payload. The wheel loader (5 to 6 ton class) loads the truck in three to five bucket passes, matched to the truck bed size. The surface drill rig produces a consistent blast pattern so fragmentation suits the loader and truck. A water sprinkler truck wets the haul road to keep PM10 down and reduce tire wear. This integration means cycle times are planned, not assumed.
| Pit scale | Truck class | Loader | Drill |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small quarry | YT3621 / YTG50 (40-50 t) | 952A (5 t) | Compact surface drill |
| Mid open-pit | YTK90E / YTK105E (60-70 t) | 956H (5 t) | YTR series rig |
| Large copper/iron mine | YTK120E / YTK145E (90-140 t) | 966H (6 t) | Heavy blast-hole rig |
Electrification for fixed-short hauls
Where the haul cycle has a loaded downhill grade, our battery-electric trucks recover energy on descent through regenerative braking, reducing grid demand. Charging is planned around shift patterns and the charge pad is sized to the fleet. This is the configuration behind the Zimbabwe lithium delivery and the Indonesia coal case. Typical mining scenarios
High-altitude copper pit. Above 3,500 m, diesel naturally loses power; electric trucks avoid derating and simplified drivetrains reduce heat in thin air. We specify thermal management and air filtration for the altitude. See the Chile copper case for measured results.
Hot-climate iron ore operation. In pits that exceed 40 C, cooling packages, hydraulic oil coolers and sealed electrical enclosures are upsized. The Australian iron ore deployment confirms the package in sustained heat. Read it on the Australia case page.
Dusty quarry or cement plant. Silica dust wears fast-moving components. We quote a fast-moving spare-parts kit with the first order and commission a dust-protection checklist. The maintenance plan targets filter and seal intervals before failure. See after-sales support for parts lead times.
Service and parts planning
Mining uptime depends on parts availability as much as machine quality. We bundle recommended fast-moving parts (filters, seals, brake linings, hoses) with the first order so the site is not waiting on 30-day sea freight for a consumable. For electric fleets, we plan charging commissioning with the site electrical contractor. Operator training covers pre-start checks, safe loading and basic fault diagnosis at our Zhengzhou facility or on site. Read more on the service page and operator training page.

Frequently asked questions
Which Yutong equipment combination works well for an open-pit mine?
A typical combination pairs a rigid or electric mining truck (60 to 140 tons) with a large wheel loader (5 to 6 tons) for loading and a surface blast-hole drill rig for fragmentation. For large pits we also recommend a water sprinkler truck for haul road dust suppression. We size the truck fleet to loader bucket passes and production tonnage.
At what altitude can your mining trucks operate?
Our diesel mining trucks are rated for high-altitude operation up to 4,000 meters with appropriate derating, and electric trucks avoid the altitude power loss that affects naturally aspirated diesel engines. We confirm derating for your specific pit elevation during quotation.
Do you offer battery-electric mining trucks for hot climates?
Yes. The YTK electric range uses liquid thermal management on the battery pack and is deployed in mines where ambient temperatures exceed 40 degrees C. Cooling and heating loops are sized to the site climate; the lithium Zimbabwe and Chile copper cases both ran in warm conditions.
How do you handle dust protection on hydraulic and electrical systems?
Electrical enclosures meet IP ratings appropriate to mining duty, and air intake systems use pre-cleaners plus heavy-duty filters. We recommend scheduled filter changes as part of the maintenance plan, and our service team includes a dust-protection checklist in commissioning.
Can you supply a complete fleet including spare parts and training?
Yes. We supply the truck fleet, recommended fast-moving spare-parts kits, on-site commissioning and operator training. For large fleets we can plan charging infrastructure for electric trucks and provide a maintenance manual in English.
